The goal area is the restricted zone located directly in front of goal. This semi circular space is defined by the six meter line on court. Only the goalkeeper is allowed to stand or move inside this specific area. Attacking players may jump into the air over this zone to take shots. They must land only after the ball has left their throwing hand completely. A goalkeeper catches a bouncing ball while standing inside the goal area. This zone protects the goalkeeper from physical contact and interference during a game. If a defender enters this area to gain an advantage, a penalty occurs. The goal area is the most protected and important part of the court. Understanding the boundaries of the goal area is essential for every new player.
