A goal attempt occurs when a player shoots the ball toward the ring to score. Only the goal shooter and goal attack may legally take these shots during play. The athlete must stand completely inside the goal circle to make a valid attempt. Success depends on balance, focus, and a smooth release of the ball. A player shoots a high arc to ensure the ball drops through the net. Defenders try to block the shot by jumping or stretching their arms upward. Missing an attempt gives both teams a chance to rebound the ball. One real-world example involves a goal shooter tossing the ball through the hoop from a short distance.
