Goalkeeper interference is a foul called when an attacker hits the goalie. This occurs when a player enters the goal area or initiates illegal contact. The goalkeeper must have space to move and make saves without being blocked. Referees are very strict about protecting the goalkeeper from any physical danger. This foul results in a free throw or a turnover for defense. An attacker bumps into the goalkeeper while jumping into the six meter zone. This illegal contact prevents the goalkeeper from reaching a shot on the net. Players must maintain control of their bodies when jumping toward the goal area. Safety is the priority during these high speed interactions near the scoring zone. Repeated interference can lead to a yellow card or a two minute suspension.
