Grab Start Meaning in Swimming

The grab start involves a swimmer pulling against the front of the starting block for leverage. This technique allows the athlete to generate maximum tension before the official starting signal sounds. Swimmers place their hands between their feet or on the outside of the block. They pull upward and forward to explode into the pool at the loud beep. A swimmer grips the edge of the block to prepare for the start. This starting style provides great stability and power for beginners and experienced athletes alike. Proper weight distribution on the feet prevents the swimmer from falling forward too early. A quick reaction from the grab start gives the athlete an immediate lead.
