Hands over pressure describes the defensive action of stretching arms over an opponent with the ball. A defender must stand at least 0.9 meters away from the person holding the ball. This distance ensures the move is legal and does not result in an obstruction penalty. Reaching over the ball carrier limits their vision and restricts their passing angles. A goal keeper puts hands over the shooter to disrupt a shot attempt. This technique forces the attacker to search for a more difficult passing option. Maintaining high hands for the full three seconds creates a high chance of a turnover. One real-world example features a defender jumping with arms extended to block a chest pass.
