The in-goal is the scoring area at each end of the pitch between the goal line and the dead-ball line. To score a try, a player must press the ball down on the grass within this specific zone. It includes the goal line itself but does not include the side touchlines or the back dead-ball line. If the ball is touched down by a defender in their own in-goal, it results in a restart like a goal-line drop-out. This area is the ultimate destination for every attacking move in a match. For example, a winger might dive into the in-goal to score a try after a long sprint. The referee checks that the ball touched the grass before the player’s body hit the sideline. It is the field’s end zone.”
