The inward 1½ 403 is a dive involving one and a half forward somersaults. The diver stands on the edge of the board facing the tower. They jump up and rotate their body forward toward the diving board. This maneuver concludes with the athlete entering the water head-first in a line. The inward group requires the diver to move away from the board safely. This dive can be performed in the tuck, pike, or straight positions. One example of an inward 1½ 403 is the pike version in competition. Judges evaluate the distance from the board and the height of the jump. A clean entry with a vertical body line is the ultimate goal. This dive is a common requirement for intermediate level competitive diving lists. Mastery of this move leads to more complex inward somersaulting maneuvers later.
