Kick Set Meaning in Swimming

A kick set is a dedicated portion of practice focused solely on leg movements. Swimmers often use kickboards to keep their heads up and isolate their lower body muscles. These sets build the leg strength and endurance required for powerful starts and finishes. Developing a strong kick is essential for maintaining a high body position in the water. A swimmer completes eight laps of butterfly kicking while holding a blue foam board. Coaches use these sets to correct foot positioning and improve the rhythm of the kick. Intense kicking drills increase the athlete’s overall speed and stability during a full stroke. A strong kick set is often the most physically demanding part of swimming practice.
