Kin Geri Meaning in Karate

Kin Geri is a fast and direct karate technique known as the groin kick or snap. The practitioner swings the foot upward in a short arc to strike with the top of the foot. It is a primary self defense move because it targets a very sensitive and vulnerable area. This kick requires very little space and can be executed quickly from a natural standing position. The leg snaps back immediately after the impact to prevent the opponent from catching the limb. A student performs a quick upward snap kick during a practical self defense training scenario. Staying relaxed allows the leg to move with the speed necessary to beat an opponent’s reaction. This strike is often followed by a punch to ensure the attacker is fully stopped.
