A knockdown happens when a punch forces a boxer to touch the canvas with any part of the body besides the feet. The referee immediately begins a count. The boxer must rise before ten seconds pass. Even a glove touching the floor can count. Because knockdowns score strongly with judges, they shift momentum fast. For example, Deontay Wilder dropped Tyson Fury with a heavy right hand in their first fight. Fury rose just before the count ended. That moment shocked the crowd. A knockdown does not guarantee victory. However, it places serious pressure on the fallen fighter. Recovery and composure become critical.
