Knockout qualifying is the format used in modern Formula 1. It divides qualifying into Q1, Q2, and Q3. Drivers are eliminated after each stage. Only the fastest move forward. This creates rising pressure through the session. For example, a driver may barely survive Q1. He then improves enough to reach Q3. The system rewards consistency and speed. It also creates suspense for fans. Each round becomes more intense.
