A lead throw is a toss aimed at where a player will be. The thrower predicts the movement of the defender to secure a successful hit. A player throws to the right because the opponent is currently running there. This technique accounts for the time the ball takes to travel through air. If the timing is perfect the ball and the player meet exactly. Mastering the lead throw requires a deep understanding of opponent habits and speed. It is much more effective than throwing directly at a person’s current spot. High-level players use this strategy to eliminate the most mobile and fast defenders.
