The leg side, also known as the ‘on side,’ is the half of the field that is behind the batter’s back when they are in their hitting stance. For a right-handed batter, this is the left-hand side of the field if you are looking from the bowler’s perspective.
Example: The bowler drifted too far toward the leg side, allowing the batter to easily flick the ball away for a boundary.
Pro-Tip: Most ‘power’ shots, like the pull and the sweep, are played toward the leg side. Because there are strict rules about how many fielders can stand behind the batter on this side, it is often a favorite target for batters looking to score quick runs.
