Leg side trap refers to a tactical field setting designed to catch a batter hitting sideways. The captain places several fielders behind the square on the leg side of the cricket field. The bowler then delivers short or aimed balls that force the batter to play there. This strategy exploits a player’s natural instinct to pull or hook the fast moving ball. A batter fell into the leg side trap by hitting a catch to deep fine leg. This plan requires the bowler to be very accurate with their height and their line. It is a common way to dismiss powerful hitters who like to use their wrists. Using this trap can slow down the scoring rate by making the batter very cautious. It remains one of the most effective psychological and physical tactics in modern professional cricket.
