A lob is a high and slow throw that follows an arching path. This type of throw is often used to distract or change pace. A player tosses a lob to force a defender to look upward. While the defender watches the lob another teammate throws a fast straight ball. Lobs are risky because they are very easy for opponents to catch. A caught lob results in the thrower being eliminated from the game. Players use this move sparingly to break the rhythm of the defending team. The slow speed of a lob can trick an over-eager defender into moving.
