Low Hang Clean Meaning in Weightlifting

A low hang clean describes a weightlifting exercise starting with the barbell just below the knees. This specific starting position forces the athlete to generate power without using momentum from the floor. The lifter pulls the weight upward to the shoulders while maintaining a very straight back. An athlete practiced this movement to improve the speed of their leg drive during training. Starting from this height teaches the lifter to keep the bar close to the body. Using this technique builds the explosive strength needed for the full version of the lift.
