Lower bounce occurs when the ball stays closer to the ground after hitting the pitch surface. This physical behavior often happens on older pitches or those with a lot of soft moisture. The ball does not rise to the expected height of the waist or the chest. Batters must adjust their technique to hit the ball much closer to their own feet. One ball stayed very low and passed under the bat to hit the stumps. This unpredictable movement makes it very hard to play aggressive shots with a horizontal bat. Bowlers try to exploit this by aiming directly at the base of the wooden targets. Staying low in the stance helps a batter deal with these difficult and shallow bounces. Many games become much harder to play as the pitch cracks and the bounce lowers.
