Makura-Kesa-Gatame is the pillow scarf hold used to pin an opponent. The attacker sits by the side and places a thigh under. This leg acts like a pillow for the head of the defender. One arm wraps around the neck and grabs the own leg. This creates a very tight and uncomfortable circle around the head. One game example involves holding this position until the referee ends time. This pin is very secure because it isolates the neck and shoulder. The attacker must keep the weight forward to maintain the heavy pressure. Strategy involves pulling the arm of the opponent to prevent an escape. This technique is excellent for controlling a player who tries to sit.
