Mikazuki Geri Meaning in Karate

Mikazuki Geri is a crescent kick that follows a curved, swinging path. The leg moves in an arc like the shape of a moon. This kick can travel from the outside in or inside out. The sole of the foot usually strikes the target or blocks. A student uses this move to knock away an opponent’s attacking hand. This action clears a path for a follow-up punch or strike. The kick effectively targets the head or the side of the torso. Flexible hips allow the leg to swing freely with high speed. Practitioners use the momentum of the swing to increase the impact force. This technique works well for breaking through a tight defensive guard. The arc of the kick makes it difficult for opponents to predict. Training this move improves the overall range of motion in the legs. It serves as a unique tool for both offense and defense.
