Narrow Grip Meaning in Weightlifting

A narrow grip describes a hand position that is closer than the width of the shoulders. This hold shifts the physical work from the chest muscles to the triceps and arms. Lifters use this specific spacing to improve their lockout strength for overhead movements. The athlete moved their hands inward to practice a close grip bench press exercise. Narrower hand placement requires a greater range of motion to complete the full lift. Most lifters use this variation to target specific weaknesses in their upper body strength.
