A new ball is used at the start of an innings or after a set number of overs. It is harder, bouncier, and swings more, favoring fast bowlers.
For example, during a Test match, a bowler may attack with a new ball to take early wickets. Batters need sharper reflexes and technique against it.
Did You Know: In Tests, the ball typically becomes “old” after 80 overs, reducing swing and seam movement.
