O-Goshi-Makikomi Meaning in Judo

O-Goshi-Makikomi is a major hip throw combined with a winding finish. The attacker performs a hip toss while wrapping the arm of the opponent. Both players fall to the ground together in a rolling motion. The attacker uses the body weight to ensure the defender lands flat. One game example shows a player finishing the match with this roll. This technique is very difficult to escape once the winding begins. The attacker must commit the entire torso to the downward rotation. Proper execution leads directly into a dominant pinning position on the mat. Strategy involves using the momentum of the fall to secure the win. This move provides a very powerful way to finish a throw.
