Offensive Lob Meaning in Tennis

An offensive lob is a tactical shot hit with a lower and faster trajectory than a defensive version. It is used specifically when an opponent is standing very close to the net. Instead of hitting the ball past them, you hit it just over their reach. The ball should land deep in the back of the court before they can turn around to chase it. This shot requires great deception to make the opponent think you are hitting a standard hard drive. By the time they realize the ball is going over their head, it is often too late to recover.
