Open Court Meaning in Dodgeball

Open court refers to a situation where very few players remain active. This creates a lot of empty space for running and long throws. A player sprints across the floor to avoid a distant incoming ball. With fewer distractions it is easier to track every single live ball. However players have nowhere to hide behind teammates in this open environment. This stage of the game requires high endurance and very fast footwork. Tactical positioning becomes even more important when the court feels this large. Athletes must stay alert to avoid being cornered in the empty space.
