Overgunned describes a situation where a surfer uses a board that is too large. This happens when the surfboard is designed for waves bigger than the current surf. A board with too much length and volume is difficult to turn quickly. The rider struggles to control the board in small and very fast waves. Being overgunned makes it hard to perform sharp maneuvers and stay in pocket. This term usually applies to people using big wave guns in small surf. A surfer feels clumsy while riding a small wave on a giant board. The extra weight makes the board feel slow and unresponsive during a session. One rider catches waves easily but cannot turn the board at the beach. Choosing the right board size for the conditions is vital for every surfer.
