An overhand throw is a technique where the ball is released from above the shoulder. This style provides the most speed and power for hitting distant targets on the court. A player lifts the ball high and snaps their wrist downward toward a defender. This downward angle makes it difficult for opponents to catch the ball safely or cleanly. Most competitive players use the overhand motion as their primary method of attacking the other team. It allows for a long reach and high velocity which is ideal for quick eliminations. Developing a consistent overhand release is the first step for any beginner learning the sport. Accuracy improves when the player points their lead foot directly at the intended target area.
