Oversteer Meaning in Formula 1

Oversteer happens when the rear of the car loses grip first. The back slides outward during a corner. The driver must quickly correct with steering input. Too much correction can cause a spin. Oversteer often occurs with high throttle use. For example, accelerating too hard out of a turn can trigger it. The car rotates more than expected. Skilled drivers sometimes use mild oversteer to rotate faster. However, excessive oversteer costs time and control. Proper balance reduces the risk.
