Polyester strings are a stiff and durable type of synthetic string made for high performance. They are often called poly by players and stringers in the tennis community. These strings are very popular among professionals and advanced players who hit with lots of power. The stiff material allows players to swing very hard without the ball flying out of the court. It offers excellent control and creates massive amounts of topspin on every shot. However, the stiffness can be hard on the arm and may cause injuries like tennis elbow. For example, an aggressive baseline player uses polyester strings to keep their heavy shots inside the white lines. They enjoy the way the strings snap back to create spin on their deep forehand. These strings do not lose their shape easily but they do lose their tension quickly. This means they might feel dead or lose their pop after just a few matches. They are best suited for athletes who have fast swings and good technique. Beginners should use them with caution due to the physical impact.
