A power jerk is a lifting technique where the athlete pushes the bar overhead with a jump. Unlike a split jerk, the feet move sideways into a squatting position rather than forward and back. This movement requires the lifter to catch the barbell with slightly bent knees and straight arms. The lifter performed a power jerk to finish the second half of the clean movement. Success depends on a vertical drive from the legs and a very fast arm extension. Many athletes prefer this style because it requires less horizontal space on the competition platform.
