Power output measures the rate at which an athlete applies physical force to a heavy object. High output means moving a significant weight over a distance in a very short time. Weightlifting requires more explosive power than slow strength because the movements happen so quickly. The coach used a sensor to track the power output during the athlete’s heavy snatches. Increasing this metric allows a lifter to move heavier bars with much less physical effort. Training with light weights at high speeds helps improve this essential explosive capacity for sport.
