Pull Phase Meaning in Swimming

The pull phase is the part of the swimming stroke that provides the most forward movement. This stage begins after the catch and ends when the hand begins to exit the water. Swimmers use their hands and forearms to push the water backward with great physical force and intent. A strong pull phase is essential for overcoming water resistance and maintaining a fast competitive racing pace. An athlete accelerates their hand through the pull phase to gain a lead in the sprint.
