Quad Fin Meaning in Surfing

A quad fin is a surfboard setup that utilizes four separate fins. This configuration places two fins on each side of the board near rails. It provides excellent speed because water flows freely through the center of tail. The quad setup offers more grip on the wave face than twin fins. Many surfers prefer this for very fast and hollow tube riding conditions. It helps the board hold its line in steep and powerful water walls. A surfer zooms through a fast section on a quad fin board. The four fins provide extra drive when the rider pumps for speed. One athlete feels the extra traction while turning on a large swell. This setup bridges the gap between the speed of twins and thruster control.
