Reactive Catch Meaning in Dodgeball

A reactive catch is a grab made as a direct response to a throw. This involves the defender using their hands to secure a ball flying toward them. A player sees a fast ball and traps it against their chest area. This action eliminates the thrower and brings a teammate back into the game. Reactive catching requires incredible reflexes and a lack of fear regarding the incoming ball. It is the most effective defensive play a person can make on the court. Practicing this skill involves many hours of seeing live balls at various high speeds. A successful reactive catch can instantly turn the tide of a losing match.
