Regular foot describes a stance where the surfer leads with the left foot. This position places the right foot at the back of the board. Most surfers naturally adopt this orientation when they first begin to ride. The back foot provides the power and control needed for turning. A regular foot surfer faces the wave when riding toward the right. This stance is often called natural-footed in many different parts of the world. One surfer stands with the left leg forward on a long wave. Balance remains easier for most people when the dominant leg stays in back. This stance influences how a rider approaches every different section of the surf. Most surfboard designs accommodate this common foot placement for maximum performance and stability.
