Definition: A relief pitcher is a pitcher who enters the game after the starting pitcher is taken out. Their job is to “relieve” the starter and prevent the opposing team from scoring for the remainder of the game.
Example: The starting pitcher began to look tired in the seventh inning, so the manager called in a relief pitcher to finish the game.
