Renoji Dachi Meaning in Karate

Renoji Dachi is a specific karate stance where the feet form the shape of the letter L on the floor. The front foot points straight ahead while the back foot is turned outward at a ninety degree angle. Most of the body weight rests on the back leg to allow the front leg to move freely. This stance is primarily used for defensive maneuvers and quick forward strikes during a close range encounter. It provides a narrow profile that makes the practitioner a smaller target for the opponent to hit or grab. A student shifts into an L shaped stance to prepare a fast front kick with the lead leg. Proper alignment of the heels is necessary to maintain balance while moving quickly in this specific foot position. Staying light on the front foot allows for faster reactions to an incoming attack from the front.
