An athlete executes a ring leap on the floor to earn high difficulty. Judges look for a deep arch and a high position for the knees. The gymnast must time the arch and the jump to peak together. Strong leg power is necessary to get enough height for the back bend. The landing requires the gymnast to snap the body back to a vertical. Keeping the front leg horizontal ensures the leap meets the technical scoring requirements. This move often serves as a highlight in a high level artistic routine. The gymnast must land on one foot without taking any extra steps.
