Roll Tack Meaning in Sailing

A roll tack is a high-performance technique used primarily in light-to-moderate winds to turn a boat (tack) without losing speed. The crew intentionally leans the boat over to one side just before the turn and then ‘rolls’ it to the new side as the bow crosses the wind.
