Seisan is one of the oldest karate forms and translates to the number thirteen. This pattern focuses on the tension between fast explosive movements and slow controlled actions. It teaches students how to fight at a very close range using short punches and kicks. The form includes techniques for grabbing an opponent and pulling them into a powerful strike. Practitioners maintain a low and stable stance to ensure balance during quick directional changes. A student performs a low side kick to the knee of a practice partner. Building leg strength is a key strategy for maintaining a solid base in this form. Strong grip strength helps a person control an attacker during a close range encounter.
