The service box is the rectangular area where a serve must land. There are two service boxes on each side of the net. A server must hit the ball diagonally into the correct box. If the ball lands outside that box the serve is a fault. The service box starts at the net and ends at the service line. It also sits between the center line and sideline. Accuracy becomes very important during serves. Players aim carefully to avoid errors. For example a serve that lands just beyond the service line counts as a fault. A correct serve must bounce inside the box. The service box controls how every point begins.
