Shooting Circle Meaning in Netball

The shooting circle is the semi-circular area at each end of the court where goals are scored. Only the four designated scoring and defending players are allowed to enter this specific zone during play. For a goal to count, the shooter must have at least one foot inside this area. The radius of the circle measures exactly four point nine meters from the center of the post. A goal shooter moves within the shooting circle to find the best angle for a scoring shot. Defenders work hard to push attackers to the edges of this zone to make shooting harder. Most of the high-intensity action and physical contesting happens within this small and critical court space. One real-world example shows a player catching a pass while landing firmly inside the shooting circle.
