A slide tackle in football is a type of tackle where the defender drops to the ground and extends a leg to reach the ball while sliding forward, aiming to take possession or stop the opponent’s progress; this technique covers more ground than a standing tackle and can be useful when closing down a faster attacker, but it carries risk because if the tackler contacts the opponent before the ball it becomes a foul, and reckless slide tackles can result in free kicks, penalties, or disciplinary cards.
