Spin Move Meaning in Basketball

A spin move occurs when a player rotates their body three hundred sixty degrees while dribbling. The athlete uses their back to shield the ball from an active defensive player. This circular motion allows the ball handler to bypass an opponent and move toward the rim. The player plants one foot as a pivot and swings the other leg around quickly. Speed and balance remain essential for completing the rotation without losing control of the ball. This move effectively changes the direction of the attack while keeping the defender behind. A guard might spin past a defender at the top of the key for a layup. Keeping the dribble low to the floor protects the ball during the entire rotation.
