Sticking Point Meaning in Weightlifting

The sticking point refers to the most difficult part of a weightlifting movement for athletes. This usually occurs where the mechanical advantage of the muscles is at its lowest. The barbell seems to slow down or stop completely at this specific height. Lifters must push through this zone with maximum effort to finish the entire lift. A lifter struggles for a second halfway up while standing from a heavy squat. Strengthening the specific muscles used in this zone helps athletes lift much heavier weights. Coaches use special drills to help lifters accelerate through this difficult middle phase.
