A straight pass is a direct throw that travels in a flat line between two players. This pass is the fastest way to move the ball and is usually delivered at chest height. Because it travels quickly, it gives defenders very little time to react or attempt an intercept. It requires a strong push from the chest or shoulder to maintain a high ball speed. A center sends a straight pass to a goal attack standing at the edge of the circle. This technique is most effective when the passing lane is completely clear of any opposing players. If a defender is in the way, a straight pass is very easy for them to deflect. One real-world example shows a player catching a powerful straight pass and immediately turning to the goal.
