Straight pool is a classic game where players can hit any ball on the table to score. It is also known as fourteen-to-one because of how the balls are racked and counted. You earn one point for every ball you pocket in a designated hole. When only one ball remains, the other fourteen are racked again with a gap in the front. The goal is to hit the final ball and the new rack to continue your scoring run. This allows highly skilled players to reach very high scores in a single sitting. It is a game that focuses on endurance and the ability to maintain a long sequence. For example, a player reaches a score of fifty without ever letting their opponent take a turn. This requires incredible focus and the ability to plan many shots in advance. It is the purest test of a player’s ability to run the table consistently.
