Structured defence is a pre-planned system where all seven players work together to block the opposition. Unlike a random scramble, this method uses specific formations like a zone or a tight one-on-one setup. Every athlete knows exactly which space or player to cover to prevent the ball from moving forward. This collective effort makes it much harder for the attacking team to find an easy passing lane. A team employs a structured defence to force the opponents toward the sidelines during a center pass. High levels of communication are necessary to ensure no gaps open up in the defensive line. Mastering these systems allows a team to control the tempo of the game even without the ball. One real-world example features a defensive unit shifting as one block to prevent a circle entry.
