Sudden Death Meaning in Dodgeball

Sudden death is a tie breaking format where the next successful play wins everything. This mode begins if the score remains even after the regular game time has expired. The first team to eliminate an opponent or catch a ball is declared the winner. A player hits a defender and the match ends instantly without any further play or time. This creates a very high pressure environment where every single movement and throw is critical. There are no second chances or returns allowed during a sudden death overtime period of play. Teams often play more cautiously to avoid making a mistake that would end their entire tournament. This dramatic finish ensures a clear and decisive outcome for every competitive dodgeball match held.
