Suicide Play Meaning in Dodgeball

A suicide play involves a player jumping over the center line to make a throw. This high risk maneuver results in the automatic elimination of the attacker as they land. A player sprints forward and leaps into the air to hit a target at close. The goal is to eliminate a specific high value opponent before touching the ground on their side. This tactic is often a last resort used when a team is losing a round. The player sacrifices their own spot on the court to take an opponent out with them. Most rules state the hit only counts if the ball is released before the player lands. It is a dramatic and selfless act that can change the game momentum.
