Suparinpei is the longest and most complex form in the traditional Goju Ryu karate system today. The name translates to the number one hundred and eight which signifies a high level of mastery. This form contains a vast array of techniques including kicks, punches, blocks, and several intricate breathing exercises. It requires immense physical stamina and mental focus to complete the entire sequence with correct technical form. The pattern serves as a comprehensive encyclopedia of the movements and principles found in the style. An athlete performs a series of circular blocks followed by a jumping kick in competition. Mastering the specific timing of each movement is the biggest challenge for any advanced karate student. Consistent practice develops the endurance needed to maintain high power until the very last move.
